Five and Under at Arcadia Contemporary

I’m excited to share that I will have two new paintings available in Arcadia Contemporary’s annual “Five and Under” exhibition opening this Saturday! These new pieces continue my examination of Arthur Rimbaud’s poem Ophélie (1870), a passage of which I’ve attached below. You can see the fully completed pieces HERE.

On the calm black water where the stars are sleeping
White Ophelia floats like a great lily;
Floats very slowly, lying in her long veils...
- In the far-off woods you can hear them sound the mort.

For more than a thousand years sad Ophelia
Has passed, a white phantom, down the long black river.
For more than a thousand years her sweet madness
Has murmured its ballad to the evening breeze.

The wind kisses her breasts and unfolds in a wreath
Her great veils rising and falling with the waters;
The shivering willows weep on her shoulder,
The rushes lean over her wide, dreaming brow.
— Arthur Rimbaud

The 8th Annual Moleskine Project at Spoke Art

Moleskine_Benjamin_1500px.jpg

I am pleased to announce that my work is included in this year’s Moleskine Project. The Moleskine Project is a collective exhibition of artists’ sketchbooks, co-curated by Spoke Art gallery owner Ken Harman and Sydney-based artist Rodrigo Luff.

About the exhibition, co-curator Rodrigo Luff explains that, “the show is a tribute to how artists have developed and grown by using sketchbooks to dive deeper into the personal realms that fuel their artwork, exploring new ideas, concepts and even experimenting with different media and styles. An energetic visual dialogue of imagery flows from frame to frame, forming a collective sketchbook that allows us to appreciate the radically individual approach taken by each artist.

This year’s exhibition features the work of 60 individual artists from around the world. Each artist was provided with a Moleskine book in order to create an original piece within its pages.

The 8th Annual Moleskine Project will be on view June 1 - 22nd

Winter is Here at Spoke Art, San Francisco

Negron_LotT_Night's King_72.jpg

The final season of Game of Thrones is right around the corner and I, for one, can’t wait to see how it all plays out. In honor of the battle yet to come, here’s a small watercolor I did of the The Night’s King for Spoke Art a few years back. This piece will once again be on display as part of WINTER IS HERE, a group show devoted to all things Westerosi, opening this weekend in San Francisco.

To enquire about the availability of this piece, email the gallery at events@spoke-art.com.
The show runs April 6th - 7th in San Francisco.
You can view details about the event HERE.

Spoke Art is pleased to present Winter is Here, an art show in tribute to “Game of Thrones.” Inspired by the series that captured us all, the exhibition features an array of original paintings, sculpture, embroidery and limited edition prints from artists around the world.

Over 70 artists were invited to participate, resulting in a dazzling display of character portraits, elaborate environments and iconic themes and motifs from the series. Captivating audiences around the world for the past eight years, the series has been wildly successful and has subsequently helped to bring the fantasy genre into homes across the globe.
