Five and Under at Arcadia Contemporary

I’m excited to share that I will have two new paintings available in Arcadia Contemporary’s annual “Five and Under” exhibition opening this Saturday! These new pieces continue my examination of Arthur Rimbaud’s poem Ophélie (1870), a passage of which I’ve attached below. You can see the fully completed pieces HERE.

On the calm black water where the stars are sleeping
White Ophelia floats like a great lily;
Floats very slowly, lying in her long veils...
- In the far-off woods you can hear them sound the mort.

For more than a thousand years sad Ophelia
Has passed, a white phantom, down the long black river.
For more than a thousand years her sweet madness
Has murmured its ballad to the evening breeze.

The wind kisses her breasts and unfolds in a wreath
Her great veils rising and falling with the waters;
The shivering willows weep on her shoulder,
The rushes lean over her wide, dreaming brow.
— Arthur Rimbaud

The 8th Annual Moleskine Project at Spoke Art

Moleskine_Benjamin_1500px.jpg

I am pleased to announce that my work is included in this year’s Moleskine Project. The Moleskine Project is a collective exhibition of artists’ sketchbooks, co-curated by Spoke Art gallery owner Ken Harman and Sydney-based artist Rodrigo Luff.

About the exhibition, co-curator Rodrigo Luff explains that, “the show is a tribute to how artists have developed and grown by using sketchbooks to dive deeper into the personal realms that fuel their artwork, exploring new ideas, concepts and even experimenting with different media and styles. An energetic visual dialogue of imagery flows from frame to frame, forming a collective sketchbook that allows us to appreciate the radically individual approach taken by each artist.

This year’s exhibition features the work of 60 individual artists from around the world. Each artist was provided with a Moleskine book in order to create an original piece within its pages.

The 8th Annual Moleskine Project will be on view June 1 - 22nd
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 1st from 6 to 9pm

Mondo Tondo at Arcadia Contemporary

I am honored to announce that my work will be included in Mondo Tondo, a group show opening this Saturday, March 16th, at Arcadia Contemporary in Pasadena, California. Many thanks to Artefex for supplying each artist in the show with a 24” diameter circular panel on which to make their work. For my piece, I chose to tackle the subject of Ophelia, drawing inspiration from a poem by French poet, Arthur Rimbaud.

On the calm black water where the stars are sleeping
White Ophelia floats like a great lily;
Floats very slowly, lying in her long veils...
- In the far-off woods you can hear them sound the mort.
— Arthur Rimbaud, Ophelia

Mondo Tondo is free and open to the public. The opening reception will be held Saturday, March 16th, from 6-9pm. If you would like to know more about the show or inquire about any of the works show, please contact info@arcadiacontemporary.com.
